Our furry Kohl-eyed love

“So, tell me something about your family”, I asked, excited when I met my husband for the first time. He immediately reached out for his phone and showed me your picture, “he’s the one I’m closest to, he got into the family by chance and ever since, he’s been our lives, literally”, he said.

Could 2020 get any worse, I remarked with every passing day this year, till it hit us the worst yesterday and took you away from us. I havent spent as much time with you, as everyone else in the family but if there was someone who impacted me so much and overwhelmed me, it’s been you.

You only knew how to love us, more and more, unconditionally, without expectations and your only sheer pleasure was being surrounded by all of us. A kid always at heart, your only happiness was getting out on a stroll, getting patted to sleep and being given massages on your forehead as you closed your eyes in serenity. You were the most beautiful one, in the family, white, furry and with Kohl-eyes. “Kannukku mai itta maari irukku”, everyone would exclaim when they saw you. You were the most harmless, amongst your kin, the most innocent, who never fought, who never unnecessarily picked fights or behaved undisciplined. We would always gleam — “Humans need to learn from you”, whenever you displayed so much affection and the way you sensibly understood everything around you.

I don’t generally flaunt about my relations on social media but I so badly wanted to write about you, just for the hundreds of people who have always been interested to adopt one like you but never took the big step. Trust me, they bring so much happiness to our life, they show us the kind of affection that we may have never received before, they show such child-like innocence each time they wag their tail when we get ready to take them on a stroll. In this dirty world with selfish people around, we need one such companion for the sake of our sanity. We aren’t helping them, but we are doing something for ourselves. Detesting this year for taking you away like this, from us. And despite the numerous forwards that get circulated on whatsapp every year, I reiterate one more time — There are a hundred ways to celebrate, just please, refrain from firecrackers. We know, how much of a pain, they are for millions like you. We’ll miss you like crazy, and you are irreplaceable.

P.S: This is your time, enjoy the chicken and theratti paal without any restriction above atleast now, watching us like always.

Love you, Appu…
